Problems Uninstalling the software

There are times when you just can't Uninstall the software from your Windows PC. There are errors that prevent you from doing so. One way is to delete the software from the "C:\" drive but this is very wrong way. Other is to delete the "Registry" keys, but this is also very bad idea as it can damage the Operating System (OS).

One of the best ways that I have found is to use "Microsoft Fix-It Program Install/Uninstall Tool"

In my example I had problems with "Google Talk Plugin" after migrating the user from one Windows domain to another. Since "Google" products are user specific (t.i. the software is "tied" to the user SID. This means that if you would log into the OS using different username, you would not be able to see the "Google" products which were installed using other user credentials), after migrating the user the "Google Talk Plugin" loses the link with the user SID. Normally the plugin is located at:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Update\Install

but for some reason the plugin changes the path. To resolve the issue I tried to reinstall the plugin but it would show an error that the path could not be verified. After that I tried to delete all the "Registry keys" but that made the mater even worse. So finally I used "Microsoft Fix-It Program Install/Uninstall Tool" and it worked just fine.

To uninstall the software please follow these steps:
  1. Launch the “Microsoft’s Fix-It Program Install/Uninstall Tool”
  2. Once Prompted click “Yes
  3. Click “Accept” to accept the terms and conditions

  4. Choose “Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply

  5. Choose “Uninstalling

  6. Once the list has been populated choose the software that you were not able to uninstall and click “Next

  7. Then choose “Yes, try uninstall

  8. Then verify that all the settings are correct and click “Next

  9. Once the process has been completed the results will be displayed. Click “Next” to continue

  10. Leave the feedback for Microsoft by selecting one of the options and click “Next” and “Close” afterwards
  11. Once the plugin has been successfully uninstalled proceed with installing the plugin from the Google Talk homepage.
